MicroNeedling

What is MicroNeedling?

MicroNeedling is one the newest, easiest and most effective skin treatments. MicroNeedling is a form of Collagen Induction Therapy which is intended to significantly improve the appearance of acne scars, aged and sun damaged skin, wrinkles and stretch marks. It is also said to be useful in dramatically increasing absorption of topically applied skin preparations.

Who is an Ideal Candidates?

It is good for those wanting to:

  • Reduce the signs of ageing
  • Improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce mild acne scarring
  • Improve pore size
  • Have plumper healthier skin

The skin looks and feels smoother, firmer and ‘blooms’. Pores shrink, uneven pigmentation improves, and fine lines fade.

Who is Not a Good Candidate?

Patients with active acne should consider alternative options before treatment, as dermal rolling can easily spread bacteria over the skin, potentially causing breakouts. Patients prone to cold sores should let their treatment provider know so that a preventive prescription can be given prior to the session. Also we do not treat who is pregnant or breastfeeding.

Risks and Safety

The risks of MicroNeedling treatment are very low. Some prolonged redness may occur but is rare. Infection is also rare as the skin normally heals very quickly after Intensive Microneedling treatment. Hyper-pigmentation is very uncommon following this treatment as no epidermis is removed. Patients who have a risk of hyper-pigmentation will benefit from a course of skin preparation prior to Intensive Microneedling. Mild bruising may occur especially around the eyes. This is usually mild and resolves in 5 – 7 days.

MicroNeedling FAQ

Is MicroNeedling safe?
MicroNeedling does not involve injections and therefore allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely. It is minimally invasive, involves minimal downtime, rapid healing and requires simple after-care.
Does MicroNeedling hurt?
You might think that having a bunch of tiny needles stamped into your skin would be painful, but surprisingly it is not. Everyone who has experienced treatment with the Dermapen has remarked on how pain free it really is, and some have even commented that it’s a little like a rather rough massage.
What are the indications for having a MicroNeedling treatment?
MicroNeedling is especially effective for ageing concerns such as wrinkles, lines, folds and crows feet. Because collagen is produced, scars can also improve from treatments especially indented acne scars or chicken pox scars. Pigmentation issues can be helped including hyperpigmentation as well as Hypopigmentation. General lack of skin radiance, skin firmness and compactness are also an indication for skin MicroNeedling treatments and visible improvements can be seen.
How quickly are results visible?
A course of three MicroNeedling sessions, at 6-8 week intervals, is usually recommended to achieve optimum results; however great skin improvement is noticeable after just one treatment.
